Wreckreation 2 Announced Following Original Game’s Studio Closure

Wreckreation 2 is officially in development despite the unexpected closure of its original development studio. Former Criterion Games boss Fiona Sperry has announced the sequel through a newly formed studio called When Tides Turn. The announcement comes less than a year after the original Wreckreation launched in 2025 and shortly after Three Fields Entertainment faced widespread redundancies. Even so, the sequel aims to improve on its predecessor by delivering a more focused open world and a stronger arcade racing experience.

Wreckreation 2 Begins Development Under New Studio

Former Burnout veteran Fiona Sperry now leads Wreckreation 2 through her new studio, When Tides Turn. Although the studio carries a different name, it reportedly includes many former developers from Three Fields Entertainment. The original team previously created Dangerous Golf, Danger Zone, Dangerous Driving, and Wreckreation. According to reports, development on Wreckreation 2 started around three months ago. The game will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, although the developers have not announced a release date.

Sequel Promises a Better Open World

Unlike the first game, Wreckreation 2 replaces its large rural environment with a more compact map filled with urban locations. As a result, players can expect denser roads, more detailed environments, and a driving experience that feels closer to Burnout Paradise. The developers also appear focused on creating a faster-paced arcade racer rather than relying on a massive but repetitive open world. Consequently, the sequel hopes to address one of the biggest criticisms of the original release.

Developers Aim to Improve on the Original

The first Wreckreation received mixed reviews after critics highlighted inconsistent handling, repetitive events, and an uninspiring open world. Despite those setbacks, Fiona Sperry and her team remain committed to refining the formula. By building a smaller but richer environment, Wreckreation 2 aims to deliver a more exciting racing experience while capturing the fast-paced spirit that made Burnout so popular. Although development remains in its early stages, fans of arcade racing games will likely keep a close eye on the sequel as more details emerge.
