Young Doctors Protest Acid Attack on Dr Mahnoor, Demand Stronger Protection for Medics

The Dr Mahnoor Attack sparked a peaceful protest at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where doctors gathered to condemn the acid attack on a female doctor at Quetta’s Civil Hospital. The demonstration took place under the banner of the Young Doctors Association (YDA). Participants expressed solidarity with Dr Mahnoor Nasir and called for stronger measures to protect healthcare professionals across the country.
Doctors participating in the protest wore black armbands and raised slogans against violence targeting medical workers. They described the attack as a shocking and unacceptable act that has caused concern throughout the medical community. As a result, healthcare professionals urged authorities to take immediate action against those responsible.

Doctors Demand Justice and Better Security

The protesters emphasized that violence against doctors has become a growing concern. They warned that repeated attacks on healthcare workers could affect the delivery of medical services and create fear among professionals working in hospitals.
YDA leaders said the entire medical community stands with Dr Mahnoor during this difficult time. They stressed that doctors dedicate their lives to serving patients and should be able to perform their duties without fear or intimidation. Therefore, they urged authorities to strengthen security measures at hospitals and healthcare facilities.
The demonstrators also demanded swift legal action against those involved in the attack. They called on law enforcement agencies to conduct a transparent investigation and ensure that the perpetrators face justice.

Call for Medical Support and Legal Protection

YDA leaders, including Dr Umar Sultan, urged the government to provide Dr Mahnoor with advanced medical treatment facilities abroad if required. They argued that every possible resource should be used to support her recovery and rehabilitation.
In addition, the association called for comprehensive legislation to protect doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers from violence. Protesters said stronger legal safeguards would help create a safer working environment in hospitals.
The demonstration concluded with renewed calls for action to prevent similar incidents in the future. Participants stressed that protecting healthcare professionals is essential for maintaining an effective healthcare system. They urged authorities to address security concerns and ensure the safety of medical staff across Pakistan.
