YouTube Tests Custom Feed Controls for Users

YouTube is testing a new feature to give users more control over their feeds. The tool, called “Your Custom Feed,” lets users update recommendations using prompts. This approach is similar to AI feed controls on X and Instagram.
When the feature appears, a chip labeled Your Custom Feed will show on the home page. Users can click it and submit a simple prompt. The algorithm will then refine the suggested videos based on this input.
Previously, YouTube offered other feed customization options.
Users could select videos they liked, or Premium subscribers could try color based feeds. However, these tools were limited and less interactive than the current experiment.
This new feature aims to help users see more relevant content. For example, you could ask to see videos from your favorite creators or topics. As a result, YouTube hopes to reduce frustration over algorithm-driven suggestions.

Still, most users may not adjust their settings

People often prefer to scroll and watch what the system serves automatically. Yet, the option exists for those who want more control.
Platforms benefit too. Allowing feed control improves user satisfaction while maintaining engagement. AI driven recommendations still dominate, ensuring users spend more time on the app.
Experts believe these tools signal a shift toward transparency in social media. By giving users direct input, platforms can address concerns about algorithm influence. In addition, it may foster a better, more personalized experience for viewers.
