2027 Education Model: Egypt Plans New School System
Egypt plans to introduce the 2027 education model as an optional alternative to the current Thanaweya Amma examination system. Officials expect the new route to reduce exam pressure and support a more balanced approach to secondary education.
New Requirements for Students
The proposed system will introduce several requirements for high school students. Learners will need to memorise selected portions of the Holy Quran during their studies.
Students must also attend at least 60 percent of their classes. Therefore, schools will need to monitor attendance closely before allowing learners to sit exams. In addition, students must achieve at least 70 percent in religious education. They must also complete most school-based assessment activities to qualify for examinations.
The new approach will encourage learners to work throughout the academic year. As a result, students may rely less on one major examination period.Schools will also play a greater role in tracking academic progress. Teachers can use regular assessments to identify areas where students need additional support.
Results Will Cover Three Years
The proposed system will spread examination results across three years. Officials believe this structure can reduce the intense pressure linked to final secondary school exams.Under the existing arrangement, Thanaweya Amma plays a major role in students’ academic progression. However, the new route will give learners another option. The first students will take exams under the new system in 2027. Authorities plan to keep it optional instead of immediately replacing Thanaweya Amma.
For example, students can choose the route that better suits their academic needs. Families can also consider each system before making an informed decision. The government is expected to release further details about subjects, assessments and examination rules. These details will help schools prepare students for the transition. The planned changes could mark an important shift in Egypt’s secondary education system. They may also create a learning structure that places greater emphasis on steady academic progress.
