Mark S. Zuckerberg, a lawyer based in Indianapolis, filed a lawsuit in Marion Superior Court claiming that Facebook wrongly flagged him as an impersonator of Mark E. Zuckerberg, the billionaire CEO of Meta.

According to the complaint, Zuckerberg’s business and personal accounts were shut down nine times over the past eight years. He says the suspensions disrupted his legal practice, cost him potential clients, and led to more than $11,000 in lost advertising expenses. The lawsuit accuses Meta of negligence and breach of contract, with the attorney seeking financial reimbursement, coverage of legal fees, and the permanent reinstatement of his accounts.

Meta has acknowledged the mistake. After the latest suspension in May 2025, the company restored Zuckerberg’s account and said it is taking steps to prevent similar errors in the future.

The attorney argues the issue goes beyond lost business. Sharing the same name as one of the world’s most recognizable tech leaders has subjected him to harassment, prank calls, constant requests for Facebook customer support, and even death threats. In his filing, he notes that he has been practicing law since the Meta CEO was just three years old, highlighting the irony of being branded as a fake.
