Facebook Unveils Social App Refresh With New Friend-Focused Features

Meta is rolling out a major update to Facebook, and the changes highlight a clear shift toward connection. The new social app refresh puts friends, photos, and familiar features back at the center. This redesign arrives as Meta reassesses its metaverse goals and refocuses on what users still enjoy.
Facebook continues to reach billions, even as growth slows in key regions. However, younger users have embraced Marketplace, which now plays a larger role in the experience. As a result, Meta is moving Marketplace to the bottom navigation bar so people can find it faster.

The update introduces more changes designed to feel familiar.

For example, you can double-tap photos to like them, just like on Instagram. In addition, a cleaner photo grid and full-screen viewer make scrolling more visual and enjoyable.
Search is also evolving with a richer grid that highlights images, videos, and posts together. This layout helps people explore content without losing their place. Tools for creating Stories and posts now appear upfront, making it easier to add music, tag friends, and adjust settings.

Comments are getting upgrades too.

Replies load more smoothly, badges stand out, and creators gain better moderation tools. Plus, anyone can flag harmful or irrelevant remarks to support safer conversations.
Finally, Facebook is refreshing profiles to help people share interests, hobbies, and travel ideas. These details can spark new conversations and reconnect friends with shared passions. Users also control whether profile updates appear in the Feed, giving everyone more flexibility.
These updates will roll out globally in the coming weeks, with several changes available only on mobile. The redesigned navigation, improved search, and new commenting tools aim to make Facebook feel fresh without losing its roots. As the platform evolves, Meta hopes these thoughtful updates will encourage more authentic sharing and strengthen everyday connections.
