Social Media Climber Falls to Death in Yemen Crater

Social Media Climber Falls to Death in Yemen Crater

A famous social media climber has died.  Al-Qaqa Ibn Antar fell into a volcanic crater in Yemen. The incident happened on Friday. He was trying to climb steep rock faces. He used no safety equipment. Therefore, he lost his grip and fell. The 30-year-old had a large online following. He was well known for daring acrobatic stunts in his videos. However, this time the stunt went wrong.

The Famous Landmark

The Hardah Dam volcanic crater is one of Yemen’s most famous natural landmarks. Video footage of the fall is circulating online. It shows Antar climbing the near-vertical wall. He then appears to lose his grip. As a result, he plunges downward.

Rescue and Recovery

Yemen’s Civil Defence Authority issued a statement on Sunday. It praised the “heroic efforts” of its water rescue team. They successfully recovered Antar’s body “from the bottom of the crater”. The recovery was dangerous. Therefore, the team’s work is being commended.

A Warning to Others

Antar’s death is a stark reminder. Climbing without safety gear is extremely risky. Social media fame is not worth a life. Authorities are urging others not to copy such stunts.
