Punjab Academic Calendar Delay Sparks Concern Among Private Schools

Punjab Academic Calendar Delay Sparks Concern Among Private Schools

The Punjab Academic Calendar remains unavailable despite the start of the new academic year, raising concerns among private schools across the province. School owners have urged the School Education Department to finalize and release the calendar without further delay. They believe a clear academic schedule is essential for effective planning and smooth educational operations. Furthermore, schools need advanced information about examinations, holidays, and academic activities to avoid confusion during the year.

Schools Call for Timely Academic Planning

Private school representatives say the delay has created uncertainty for administrators, teachers, students, and parents. They argue that schools cannot effectively plan academic activities without an official calendar. Therefore, they have asked the government to provide a clear roadmap for the entire academic year.
School owners also highlighted the impact of changing weather conditions on educational activities. Extreme heat, heavy rainfall, and other weather-related challenges often require adjustments to school schedules. As a result, institutions need a well-planned calendar that allows them to manage disruptions effectively.
In addition, stakeholders stressed the importance of maintaining at least 210 teaching days every year. They warned that unexpected holidays can negatively affect student learning and academic progress. A structured calendar, they said, would help schools complete syllabi on time and improve overall educational outcomes.

Stakeholders Seek End to Uncertainty

According to private school representatives, the School Education Department previously consulted educational institutions while preparing the academic calendar. During those discussions, officials reportedly accepted several recommendations from stakeholders. However, the department has not yet issued the final document. The delay has drawn criticism from the education community. School owners noted that Punjab’s education minister has repeatedly announced plans to introduce a comprehensive academic calendar. Nevertheless, schools are still waiting for an official release.
Education stakeholders believe the absence of a finalized calendar affects planning at every level. Moreover, it creates difficulties for parents who need to organize family schedules around school activities. They have called on the government to act immediately and provide a predictable academic framework. Private schools maintain that the timely release of the Punjab Academic Calendar will improve planning, strengthen learning continuity, and support a more stable educational environment across the province.
