Instagram Tests New ‘Your Algorithm’ Controls to Give Users More Feed Customization
Instagram is testing new ways to make Your Algorithm easier to use across the app. The update could give users more control over the posts and Reels they see every day.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri shared the new ideas in a recent update. He said the company wants Your Algorithm to become a core part of the Instagram experience instead of just another settings option.
More Ways to Personalize Your Feed
The company is testing several new ways to access Your Algorithm. One option lets users pull down on the main feed to open personalization controls. Another allows users to swipe up from a Reel to adjust their content preferences. Instagram is also testing buttons below Reels. These buttons let users quickly tell the app whether they want to see more or less of similar content. As a result, recommendations may become more relevant over time.
The feature first launched last year. Since then, Instagram has expanded it to more sections of the app. However, the latest tests make personalization much easier to access. Mosseri explained that some features are already being tested. Others will arrive later, while some ideas may never launch if they fail during testing.
Users Still Want a Simpler Feed
Despite the new tools, many users continue asking for one major change. They want Instagram to show more posts from the people they already follow. The most popular comments on Mosseri’s announcement focused on this request. Many users said they prefer seeing content from friends and creators they follow instead of algorithm-based recommendations. Instagram has not confirmed when these new customization tools will become available for everyone. Since the features remain in testing, the final version could change before a wider rollout.
The update shows Instagram’s continued effort to balance personalized recommendations with user control. If successful, Your Algorithm could become one of the platform’s most important personalization features.
