Karachi Port Cargo Record Hits 54.685 Million Tons in Historic Milestone

The Karachi Port cargo record reached a historic milestone as the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) handled 54.685 million tons of cargo during the fiscal year. This marks the highest annual cargo handling in the port’s 138-year history. Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced the achievement and said KPT had surpassed its previous record. He added that the milestone reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s maritime sector and expand trade opportunities.

Government Pushes Port Modernization

Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the government continues to implement reforms to transform Pakistan into a major regional maritime and trade hub. The reforms focus on improving port operations and supporting economic growth. As a result, authorities have accelerated projects to modernize and expand the country’s ports.
The government also aims to improve logistics and attract local and foreign investment. In addition, officials are upgrading port infrastructure to increase efficiency and reduce operational delays. These measures will help strengthen Pakistan’s position in regional and global trade. The minister congratulated KPT Chairman Admiral Shahid Ahmed and praised the officers and employees for their dedication. He said their teamwork and commitment played a key role in achieving the new milestone.

KPT Plans Further Improvements

Chairman KPT Admiral Shahid Ahmed said Karachi Port has improved its operational efficiency over the past year. The port has also increased its cargo handling capacity and strengthened administrative performance. Therefore, KPT continues to deliver better services to shipping companies and businesses.
He added that the port authority is introducing more measures to improve competitiveness. These initiatives will enhance operational standards and support future growth. Furthermore, KPT aims to strengthen Karachi Port’s position as one of the region’s leading maritime gateways.
Officials believe the Karachi Port cargo record highlights Pakistan’s growing trade potential. Continued investment in modern infrastructure and efficient port management will support higher cargo volumes, attract more international business, and contribute to the country’s long-term economic development.
