Ufone Telenor Rebranding Awaits Regulatory Approval
The proposed Ufone Telenor rebranding to the e& brand cannot move forward until Pakistan Telecommunication Mobile Limited (PTML) completes legal requirements with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).
According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) sources, PTML must first update its corporate records before applying for regulatory approval. Only after this process can the PTA review the request under the country’s telecom licensing framework.
PTA and Government Will Review Proposal
Officials say it is too early to predict whether the rebranding will receive final approval. The process may also require clearance from the federal government after SECP registration is complete.
Sources added that government involvement could become necessary because he reportedly has financial liabilities of around $800 million linked to Pakistan. Therefore, the final decision may extend beyond the PTA. The telecom regulator has already informed PTML about the legal requirements through official correspondence. The authority advised the company not to launch the proposed e& brand or begin any marketing campaign until all statutory approvals are complete.
Once PTML submits its updated corporate documents, the PTA will examine the application according to existing regulations. The authority will then decide the next steps based on the applicable legal framework. The proposed rebranding follows the recent merger between Ufone and Telenor Pakistan. However, the company’s new identity cannot become official until every required approval is secured from the relevant authorities.
