Microsoft Fixes Windows 11 Storage Bug With New Update

Microsoft has fixed the Windows 11 storage bug that caused some PCs to lose hundreds of gigabytes of storage. The solution arrives through the optional June 2026 update, giving affected users a way to recover valuable disk space. The issue involved the CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal file, which manages app permissions on Windows 11. Several users reported the file growing unexpectedly, with some devices losing between 12GB and 500GB of storage.

June Update Resolves Disk Space Issue

Microsoft included the fix in update KB5095093. The company said the update improves disk space usage for the CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal file. However, it did not explain the exact cause of the problem.
Reports suggest the file continued logging repeated app permission requests, including location access. As a result, the file expanded over time and consumed a large amount of storage. Users experiencing the issue can install the optional update through Windows Update. Open Settings, select Windows Update, choose Advanced options, and then click Check for optional updates. After that, install the June 2026 update to apply the fix.
Although the update is optional, users affected by the storage problem should install it as soon as possible. The patch helps prevent further file growth and improves overall storage management on Windows 11 devices. Microsoft continues releasing updates to improve system stability and fix unexpected software issues across its operating system.
