Pakistani Student Wins Progress Star Award at Chinese University
A Pakistani student award has brought international recognition to a young scholar from Balochistan. Sanaullah, a 20-year-old student from Musakhel district, won the prestigious “Progress Star” award at Northeast Normal University (NENU) in China.
The university presented the award on July 1 in recognition of his outstanding academic performance and dedication during his Chinese language studies. Sanaullah studied at the university’s Preparatory School for Overseas Students from September 2025 to July 2026. His achievement highlights the growing success of Pakistani students in international education.
Academic Excellence Opens New Opportunities
Sanaullah earned the award through consistent hard work and strong academic results. During his studies, he successfully passed the HSK4 Chinese language proficiency test. This achievement confirms his readiness to continue higher education in the Chinese language.
NENU ranks among China’s leading institutions for Chinese language education. It became the first university in Northeast China authorized to administer the national HSK examination. In addition, it was one of the first universities to introduce the Business Chinese Test.
Sanaullah praised the university’s curriculum, saying it strengthened his listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. He added that the programme gave him the confidence to communicate effectively in Chinese.
Preparing for a Future in Technology
Beyond the classroom, Sanaullah actively participated in cultural activities organised by the university. He joined calligraphy competitions, recitation contests, singing events and traditional Chinese cultural programmes. He also visited historical sites to gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.
According to Sanaullah, these experiences helped him practice the language in everyday situations while building cultural awareness. In September, he will begin an undergraduate degree in Computer Science at Harbin Engineering University, which is known for its strong engineering and technology programmes.
Sanaullah hopes to contribute to future space missions through research in machine learning, robotics and cybersecurity. He also encouraged young people from Balochistan and other underserved regions to pursue education and technology careers. He believes they have the talent to support Pakistan’s digital transformation and make meaningful contributions to innovation around the world.
