Teen Withdraws Case Against Meta
A Meta social media lawsuit has ended after a Florida teenager withdrew his legal case against the company. The 15-year-old, identified as R.K.C., claimed Instagram and other platforms caused harmful addiction. However, he decided to end the case before it reached trial. The teenager had already settled similar claims against TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube. His lawyers said he wanted to focus on recovery and continue therapy. They also explained that he hoped his legal action encouraged stronger protections for young users.
Legal Battle Continues
Meta welcomed the decision and said the claims lacked merit. The company also confirmed it paid no money to resolve the case. Meanwhile, the lawsuit argued that features like infinite scroll and autoplay encouraged excessive use and affected the teenager’s sleep and mental health. Previously, another young plaintiff won a landmark case against Meta and YouTube. A jury ordered both companies to pay millions in damages for harming her mental health. However, both firms have appealed that ruling.
The Los Angeles Superior Court
Continues to oversee hundreds of similar lawsuits. Several more cases are expected to reach trial in the coming months. Across the United States, thousands of families have accused major social media companies of designing addictive platforms for children. In addition, Meta recently settled another lawsuit with a school district over claims involving student welfare. A separate court also ordered the company to pay significant damages in a child safety case.
