ASU Content Creation Degree Trains Future Influencers and Digital Creators
The ASU content creation degree will prepare students for careers in digital media, influencing and online content production. Arizona State University (ASU) has launched a Bachelor of Arts in Content Creation through its Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The program combines creative, technical and business skills to meet the growing demand for professional content creators. As a result, students will graduate with practical experience and a strong digital portfolio.
The new degree appears in ASU’s 2026–2027 academic catalog and requires at least 120 credit hours. Moreover, ASU’s University Senate approved the program in March 2026. The university says graduates will be ready to work independently as influencers, content creators and digital media professionals.
Students will build real audiences
The curriculum covers video production, podcasting, multimedia storytelling, social media strategy and personal branding. Students will also learn audience analytics, digital marketing and content planning. Therefore, they will understand both the creative and business sides of the creator economy.
One of the program’s most unique features is its final project. Students will select a platform such as TikTok and develop a complete content strategy. They must publish real content throughout the semester and work to grow an actual audience.
Jessica Pucci, Senior Associate Dean at the Cronkite School, told AZFamily that students are expected to finish with measurable audience growth, genuine followers and an established online platform. The program also teaches students how to analyse performance, test different strategies and understand audience behaviour instead of simply uploading videos.
Hands-on learning and career opportunities
Students will take courses such as How to Become an Influencer, On-Camera Presence, Introduction to Editing, Videography, Podcasting and Audio Storytelling, Social Media Foundations and The Digital Audience. In addition, they will study media law, mass communication ethics, media writing and information gathering. General education courses, including mathematics and history, also remain part of the degree.
ASU will provide practical learning opportunities in Phoenix and Los Angeles. Students can join the Los Angeles Content Creation Studio, participate in brand projects and complete media internships. Furthermore, the university says graduates can pursue careers in digital influencing, podcasting, content production, digital marketing, social media management, brand storytelling, videography and photography. The degree reflects the growing recognition of content creation as a professional field that requires creativity, strategy and business expertise.
