Sindh Teacher E-Portal Faces Technical Issues, Delays Attendance and Transfers
The Sindh teacher e-portal has encountered major technical issues during its first phase, disrupting teacher attendance, appointments, and transfer procedures. The School Education Department launched the digital platform to improve transparency and reduce paperwork. However, the system has not performed as expected. As a result, thousands of teachers remain unable to complete key processes, forcing officials to delay several planned activities.
Attendance System and Transfers Hit by Technical Problems
The School Education Department introduced a face-recognition attendance system for teachers from August 1. However, the department suspended its implementation because thousands of teachers failed to complete their digital registration.
Reports indicate that more than 10,000 teachers could not finish the biometric registration process. Consequently, officials postponed the launch of the new attendance mechanism. At the same time, the e-portal for teacher appointments and transfers also experienced serious technical setbacks.
The first phase of transfers and postings became controversial after authorities questioned more than 2,000 appointment and transfer orders. In addition, Hyderabad had been declared a “red zone,” where transfers were expected to remain restricted. Despite that decision, the system assigned many teachers to schools in Hyderabad, raising concerns about the portal’s accuracy and policy implementation.
Officials Promise Improvements
The technical issues have surprised senior officials in both the Ministry of Education and the School Education Department. Moreover, the problems have delayed the second phase of teacher appointments and transfers. The Human Resources wing has also struggled to process cases because of the platform’s shortcomings.
Officials believe the department should identify the causes of the problems and hold those responsible accountable. They also stressed that the IT section introduced the portal to reduce government spending and improve transparency in teacher transfers.
Meanwhile, IT officials defended the system and said every appointment and transfer was processed online. They explained that new digital platforms often face technical challenges during their initial rollout. Teacher organizations shared a similar view and urged the department to improve the system instead of abandoning it. Therefore, they called for immediate technical upgrades so the portal can operate smoothly and restore teachers’ confidence.
