Pakistan Malaysia Ties Strengthened With Joint Working Group

Pakistan and Malaysia have agreed to form a Joint Working Group to strengthen bilateral ties. The decision came during Malaysian Home Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail’s visit to Islamabad on Saturday.

Pakistan, Malaysia Boost Security Cooperation

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held delegation-level talks with Saifuddin at the Ministry of Interior. Both sides agreed to improve intelligence sharing against terrorism, drug smuggling, illegal immigration and cybercrime.The two countries also plan to increase cooperation between their police training institutions. In addition, they discussed training opportunities for coastguards.

Pakistan will soon send a high-level delegation to Malaysia. Meanwhile, Naqvi said Pakistan wants to benefit from Malaysia’s coastguard expertise.He also described Malaysia as a fast-growing Muslim country. Moreover, he called Malaysia a popular tourist destination for Pakistanis.Naqvi expressed hope that higher work quotas would help more Pakistanis travel to Malaysia legally. He said the Malaysian minister’s visit could further strengthen bilateral relations.

Zardari Seeks Stronger Bilateral Cooperation

President Asif Ali Zardari also met Saifuddin at Aiwan-e-Sadr. During the meeting, he called for stronger cooperation in law enforcement, counterterrorism and narcotics control.The president also stressed joint efforts against human trafficking and migrant smuggling. He said both countries share close relations based on faith, culture, respect and strong people-to-people ties.Zardari welcomed progress in institutional cooperation, especially in security, immigration, legal and judicial matters. He said stronger coordination could help citizens and address shared concerns.

Both sides also discussed ways to increase bilateral trade. Zardari urged Malaysia to provide greater market access for Pakistani products.These products include rice, potatoes, wheat, poultry and animal feed. Therefore, better market access could create new opportunities for Pakistani exporters.Saifuddin noted that 2026 marks 69 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Malaysia.

The two countries established diplomatic ties in 1957.He also said 14 weekly flights currently connect Pakistani cities with Malaysia. Both countries are working to increase flight frequency further.The visit could therefore strengthen security, trade and people-to-people links between the two countries.
