Threads Adds Group Chats for Private Conversations
Threads is expanding its messaging tools once again. The app now allows users to create group chats with up to 50 participants. This update aims to boost private engagement and strengthen small community interactions.
According to Threads, “Group chats are another way to keep the conversation going with multiple people.” The feature is now rolling out globally and gives users new ways to connect beyond public posts.
To start a group chat, users can create a new message and add usernames in the “To” field. Each group can also be given a custom name, adding a personal touch.
Messaging Expansion Reaches Europe
In addition to group chats, Threads is expanding direct message (DM) access to users in Europe this week. The platform is also developing invite links to make joining group chats easier.
Users can edit sent messages within 15 minutes, while only admins can remove members. Participants can also report group chats or individual messages to ensure safety.
Since launching DMs in July, Threads has added features like photo, sticker, and GIF sharing, as well as a message requests folder. These updates make the app more functional and user-friendly.
With discussions increasingly moving to private chats, Threads’ new group feature helps position it as a serious competitor to X. As its user base continues to rise, Threads may soon become the next billion-user social app.
