Overloaded Al Asif Square Bridge Puts Thousands of Karachi Bikers at Risk

Thousands of bike riders in Karachi face danger every day while crossing the Al Asif Square bridge near Sohrab Goth. The bridge remains packed with heavy traffic, including buses and cargo trucks that exceed its capacity. As a result, the structure shakes under pressure, and riders struggle to maintain balance on uneven surfaces.

Growing Risk for Commuters

Motorcyclists use this bridge to reach Gulzar-e-Hijri, Al Asif Square, and other nearby areas. However, constant overloading has damaged the bridge’s surface. Cracks, loose joints, and vibration make it risky for bikers, especially during rush hours. Many riders say the bridge tilts slightly when large trucks pass.
Traffic jams and lane violations add to the problem. Truck drivers often ignore load restrictions and drive recklessly. Consequently, thousands of small vehicles and bikes get trapped between heavy transporters. The lack of proper monitoring and road discipline makes the bridge an accident-prone zone.

Demand for Immediate Repair

Residents and road safety experts have urged Karachi’s administration to take quick action. They want an urgent inspection of the bridge’s structure and immediate repair of damaged areas. In addition, they suggest banning overloaded trucks during peak hours and installing visible warning signs.
The Al Asif Square bridge serves as a vital link between several busy routes. Therefore, ensuring its safety is critical. Without strict enforcement and timely maintenance, this bridge could face a structural failure. Protecting daily commuters must be the city’s top priority.
