Chrome Extensions Stealing AI Chats Are a Wake-Up Call

This is not a routine tech update. Instead, it is a serious digital shock for Chrome users worldwide. Security researchers uncovered Chrome AI chat theft involving two malicious extensions. Together, they affected nearly 900,000 users.
Every ChatGPT and DeepSeek conversation was stolen every 30 minutes. Even worse, Google marked one extension as Featured. However, both extensions still appear on the Chrome Web Store.

How Prompt Poaching Became a New Cybercrime

This incident marks the third major case in three weeks. Previously, sleeper extensions activated after seven years. Later, Urban VPN sold eight million AI chats. Now, experts call this trend Prompt Poaching.
As a result, AI conversations have become valuable digital assets. The extensions copied the popular AITOPIA tool.
They matched the same design, features, and interface. Meanwhile, malware worked silently in the background. Hackers collected AI chats, open tab URLs, search queries, and session tokens. They even captured internal corporate links.
All data transferred invisibly using Base64 encoding. Uninstalling did not always help. Instead, one extension forced users to install another. Therefore, victims became trapped in a loop. The issue goes beyond criminals.
In addition, companies like Similarweb now admit collecting AI prompts. Their updated terms confirm data recording for resale. Think about what people share in AI tools. Source code, business plans, legal issues, and personal data. Now, that information may already circulate online.

What Chrome Users Should Do Now

If you use Chrome, check your extensions immediately. Remove anything suspicious without delay. This story proves one truth. Cyberattacks often target trust, not technology.
