Commercial Courts Pakistan Initiative to Accelerate Business Dispute Resolution

The federal government has launched the Commercial Courts Pakistan initiative to improve the resolution of business and trade disputes. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a special committee to prepare the legal framework for establishing commercial courts nationwide. The government expects the move to speed up case resolution and create a more business-friendly environment. As a result, companies and investors could gain greater confidence in Pakistan’s legal system.
Officials believe lengthy legal proceedings often create challenges for businesses. Therefore, the government wants to introduce specialized courts that focus exclusively on commercial matters. The proposed system aims to deliver faster decisions and improve access to justice for the business community.

Committee Begins Work on New Legal Framework

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has assigned the task to an eight-member committee. Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar will lead the panel and supervise the drafting process.
The committee includes Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, the Secretary of Law, and other senior officials. In addition, the members will review current laws and identify areas that need reform.
The government has directed the committee to prepare recommendations for establishing commercial courts throughout Pakistan. Furthermore, the panel will design a comprehensive legislative framework to support the initiative. Officials hope the new system will simplify procedures and reduce delays in commercial litigation.

Faster Dispute Resolution to Support Economic Growth

The committee will examine existing legal mechanisms and propose practical improvements. It will also recommend measures that can strengthen efficiency in handling business-related cases.
The government has instructed the panel to complete its work within 45 days. Afterward, the committee will submit a detailed report to the prime minister. The report will guide the next steps toward introducing the proposed legislation.
Officials believe faster dispute resolution can improve investor confidence and encourage economic activity. Consequently, businesses may face fewer legal hurdles when resolving commercial conflicts. A more efficient court system can also reduce costs and save valuable time.
The Commercial Courts Pakistan initiative reflects the government’s broader effort to improve the investment climate. If implemented successfully, the reform could strengthen legal certainty, support entrepreneurship, and contribute to long-term economic development across the country.
