Delhi Government School Sealed in Karachi on Court Orders

Karachi’s Delhi Government School has been sealed in Federal B Area following a court order. The Sindh education department placed a notice outside the building after the development. The notice asks students and teachers to contact the district education officer or education directorate.

School Building Handed Over

The education department said it must hand over the building to the Old Boys Association. Officials took the step in line with existing court orders.Delhi Government School once ranked among Karachi’s leading public schools. During the 1980s and 1990s, its students often secured top positions in matriculation examinations.

The school maintained its strong record until 1996. Later, private schools began dominating science group positions as public education declined. However, the school produced another major achievement in 2024. One of its students secured a matriculation science position. The institution also attracted families from Karachi’s elite circles. Admission remained highly competitive, while many parents sought recommendations for seats.

Teachers also viewed transfers to the school as a prestigious opportunity. Its reputation grew further under headmaster Shamsi Sahib. He reportedly refused admission requests from influential figures. A former education official recalled one such incident involving a recommendation from the chief minister’s office.Shamsi Sahib reportedly insisted that officials approach him directly. He refused to accept recommendations through indirect channels.

Officials Plan Student Relocation

The education department now plans to relocate around 2,000 students. Three government schools currently operate inside the building. These include girls’ schools running morning and evening shifts. A boys’ school also operates during the morning shift.

A senior education director said officials are preparing relocation plans. They will move students to nearby government schools to continue their education.Officials said court orders for the building’s handover date back to 2007. At that time, city governments managed public schools.

Former city nazim Mustafa Kamal reportedly helped keep the school under government control. Students had also opened the locked building themselves during that period.Since then, education officials have tried to preserve the institution. However, the other party did not agree to keep the building under government control.
