Ebola Patients Recover and Leave Hospital in DR Congo Celebration
Health authorities in DR Congo are celebrating a major success. Five patients who had Ebola have now recovered.
A Reason to Celebrate
They were allowed to leave the hospital. The current outbreak is suspected to have killed almost 250 people. However, those infected can get better. Officials stress that people should seek medical help if they believe they have contracted the virus.
A Ceremony for Recovered Nurses
On Sunday, a ceremony was held for four nurses. They were discharged from a hospital in Bunia. Bunia is the provincial capital of Ituri, the epicenter of the outbreak. “You are living stories that this outbreak can be stopped,” said WHO chief Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. He told the four during a visit to Bunia.
A Survivor’s Reflection
Nurse Etienne Ezo reflected on his experience. “We were really demoralized because we knew at some point we were going to die,” he told Reuters. “If you have never been isolated, you will not know that it’s not easy.”
