Free Family Education Night in El Dorado Promotes Healthy Living and Community Support
Residents of South Arkansas can look forward to an exciting evening of learning and fun. The Family Education Night will take place on Thursday, Oct. 23, from 6–7:30 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of El Dorado, located at 1201 Northwest Ave.
The event is hosted by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Institute for Community Health Innovation and the ACTIVE Coalition. It’s a free event focused on community health, family education, and meaningful connections.
Learning, Health, and Family Fun
At 6 p.m., parents can attend an important session titled “Vaping: What Parents Should Know.” Tobacco cessation expert Chandra Hicks will lead the discussion, helping parents understand vaping risks and how to talk with kids about making healthy choices. Participants will also receive a $25 virtual gift card.
In addition, the UAMS Mobile Health Unit will provide HPV education and vaccinations on-site. The CDC warns that HPV can cause cancers later in life, with about 13 million infections occurring each year in the U.S.
Connecting Communities
The ACTIVE Coalition will host a Community Resource Fair featuring 30+ local vendors offering family resources, health information, and support services. While parents explore booths, kids can enjoy activities hosted by local nonprofits. A free meal will also be provided for all attendees.
“Our goal is to make community support easy to access,” said Jill Temple, outreach manager for UAMS. “We want families to leave feeling informed, supported, and connected.”
