Gen Z Turns to AI for Friendship and Emotional Support
More than a quarter of Gen Z users now treat artificial intelligence like a friend. A global study found that many young people use AI for emotional support and personal matters.
Young Users Build Personal AI Habits
Kaspersky surveyed 7,200 people worldwide about their AI habits. The results showed that Gen Z uses the technology more often than other age groups. Around 27% said they interact with AI like a friend. Meanwhile, 28% ask AI about personal issues they avoid discussing with others.
Nearly half, or 47%, use AI daily or regularly. This figure marks the highest usage rate among the groups surveyed. Young users also rely on AI for several practical needs. About 56% use it to find information, while 49% use it for studying. In addition, 47% use AI to develop ideas, and 39% use it for work.
Experts Warn About Privacy Risks
Despite their confidence with technology, many Gen Z users overlook basic security measures. Only 42% regularly verify information or avoid sharing confidential details. Another 52% take security precautions only sometimes. Meanwhile, 6% do not use any protective measures when interacting with AI tools.
Experts warn that personal conversations with AI may feel private. However, users should treat information entered into these systems as non-confidential by default.AI tools can also provide incorrect information. Furthermore, users may unknowingly expose sensitive details during personal conversations.
Vladislav Tushkanov from Kaspersky said Gen Z understands AI trends better than older generations. He noted that young users continue finding new ways to use the technology. However, Tushkanov urged users to balance curiosity with caution. He recommended verifying important information and protecting personal data. The study highlights a growing connection between young people and AI. Therefore, users must understand both its benefits and potential risks.
