Gilgit Baltistan Results: PPP Leads Early Count as Parties Allege Rigging
Gilgit Baltistan Results placed the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) ahead in the unofficial count of the regional assembly elections. Early results showed the PPP leading in 10 constituencies. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led in six seats, while independent candidates held leads in five constituencies.
The election remained highly competitive across the region. However, allegations of irregularities quickly emerged after polling ended. Both the PPP and PTI questioned the transparency of the counting process and demanded immediate action.
PPP Maintains Lead in Key Constituencies
Unofficial results showed PPP regional president Amjad Hussain leading in GBA-1 Gilgit. At the same time, former chief minister Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman of the PML-N led in GBA-2. PTI-backed independent candidate Sohail Abbas stayed ahead in GBA-3.
The PPP also performed strongly in Skardu and nearby districts. Party candidates led in Skardu, Rondu, Kharmang, Shigar, Darel, and Ghizer. In addition, MWM candidate Muhammad Kazim secured an early lead in one Skardu constituency.
The PML-N demonstrated strength in Astore, Tangir, Ghizer, and Ghanche. Independent candidates also gained ground in Diamer, Yasin, and Ghanche. Therefore, the final outcome remains open as counting continues.
PPP and PTI Raise Concerns Over Election Process
Despite its lead, the PPP criticized the conduct of the election. Party leaders claimed officials delayed the release of Form-45 documents. They also alleged changes to voter lists and polling station locations before voting.
Similarly, PTI accused authorities of manipulating results after polling closed. The party questioned unusually high turnout figures in some areas.
