Green School Programme expands across Punjab schools

The Green School Programme is transforming education across Punjab. More than 26,000 schools have joined the initiative so far. In addition, about 7.6 million students and teachers are now part of the programme.

Eco-Friendly Learning Gains Momentum

Officials have introduced environmental awareness into school curricula. As a result, students now learn about sustainability in daily lessons. They also take part in activities that promote green habits.
Secretary Environment Department Salut Saeed said schools have started practical steps. These steps focus on improving air quality, saving water, and managing energy. Moreover, environment-friendly activities have increased in many institutions.
Teachers are receiving special training under the Green School Programme. This training helps them guide students toward eco-friendly lifestyles. Therefore, the programme aims to build long-term awareness among young learners.
Authorities have also set up a strict monitoring system. It checks performance at 100 key points. In addition, officials plan to award five-star certifications to high-performing schools.

The Green School Programme already includes over 80 percent of government schools. Meanwhile, private institutions are showing growing interest in joining. As a result, the programme continues to expand across the province.
