Gwadar Reopens 41 Schools, Enrolling Over 1,100 Students in Education Revival Drive
Gwadar has reopened 41 previously closed schools, enrolling 1,157 students under Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti’s campaign to restore non-functional schools across Balochistan.
Reviving Education in Gwadar
Before this initiative, 63 schools in the Gwadar district were inactive. Now, most are back in operation, and the remaining 22 schools will reopen within the next year.
According to Gwadar Pro, the reopening drive combines government and community support. Nineteen schools were staffed through the SBK Teachers (Phase I) recruitment scheme. Two schools hired teachers on contract, and three received new staff under Phase III.
The Pakistan Army helped restore three schools, while 17 were reopened through local efforts led by the district’s deputy commissioner.
Education Reform Across Balochistan
The Balochistan Education Statistics 2023–24 report states that Gwadar now has 312 educational institutions with 35,260 students.
Province-wide, 3,862 schools were once non-functional. In the last 18 months, 3,144 have been revived, welcoming 81,834 students back to classrooms. During this period, the government also appointed 16,000 teachers through a merit-based system.
Officials describe this initiative as a key part of Balochistan’s broader education reform strategy. The goal is to strengthen infrastructure and ensure every child has access to quality learning opportunities.
Education experts believe these efforts will build a stronger foundation for higher education and technical training. Institutions like the University of Gwadar and the Pak–China Technical and Vocational Institute are already preparing local youth for new opportunities under the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
