Habib University Gala in Canada Unites Diaspora to Support Education

Leaders of the Pakistani diaspora in Canada gathered in Mississauga for Habib University’s fundraising gala, “Shaping Futures in a Fractured World.” The event celebrated the university’s decade-long journey of promoting Habib University education and creating equitable access to higher learning in Pakistan.

Celebrating a Vision for Change

The evening brought together entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and education advocates who believe in the power of knowledge to unite communities. Award-winning journalist Aaron Maté delivered the keynote speech, highlighting how education fosters empathy, understanding, and resilience in divided times.

Muslim Hassan, Chair of Habib University Foundation Canada, paid tribute to the late Rafiq M. Habib, the founding chancellor. “His vision was both generous and transformative,” he said. “We must continue his mission to strengthen education for Pakistan’s future.”

Empowering Minds, Shaping Futures

President Wasif Rizvi reflected on Habib University’s founding purpose—to respond to global crises of inequality and ignorance. He described Rafiq Habib’s philanthropy as “reparative,” focused on rebuilding intellectual and ethical foundations.
Alumnus Sameer Nizamuddin shared how the university’s HU TOPS program provides scholarships for deserving students. “In a country where few can afford college, Habib University changes lives,” he said.
As the evening ended, guests pledged continued support for inclusive education. Marzia Habib Hassan thanked attendees for their trust in Habib University’s mission to nurture critical thinkers who lead with compassion and courage.
