Imran Khan Medical Treatment: Former Captains Urge PM
Twenty-one former international cricket captains have renewed their appeal to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. They want the government to ensure Imran Khan receives the medical treatment ordered by the Supreme Court.The former players raised concerns about Khan’s recent medical assessment. The Supreme Court ordered his transfer from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital on August 18.
Former Captains Question Medical Assessment
Authorities instead took Khan to PIMS for medical examination. Doctors from Shifa International Hospital also joined the medical team at the facility.Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said specialists examined Khan at the hospital. The team included an ophthalmologist, cardiologist and physician.
Tarar said the doctors found Khan medically fit. However, the former captains questioned the decision to return him to jail after only a few hours.They raised their concerns in a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The former cricketers called for a court-directed medical board to complete Khan’s assessment.They also want Khan’s personal doctors and sister, Dr Uzma Khan, to join the medical board. According to the former captains, this step would provide a more independent assessment.
Former Players Seek Independent Examination
The signatories urged the government to arrange an independent medical examination. They highlighted particular concerns about reported vision loss in Khan’s right eye.They also called for uninterrupted weekly family visits. In addition, they asked authorities to implement any treatment recommended by the medical board without delay.The signatories include Greg Chappell, Ian Chappell and Allan Border. Sunil Gavaskar, David Gower, Clive Lloyd, Arjuna Ranatunga, Steve Waugh and John Wright also signed the appeal.
The latest letter follows a similar appeal from 14 former international captains. They raised concerns about Khan’s health in February.The former players have now renewed their call for medical care. They want authorities to follow the Supreme Court’s directions and address concerns about Khan’s health.
