Inclusive Education Reform Gains Momentum as MoFEPT Upgrades Special Education Centers

Inclusive education reform remains at the center of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training’s agenda. Secretary Nadeem Mahbub reinforced this message during a visit to two special education institutions in Islamabad. He inspected the National Special Education Centre for Visually Handicapped Children and the Physical Handicapped Centre. The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to turn policy goals into practical improvements for students.
The secretary stressed that education reforms must benefit every learner. He said students with differentiated abilities should remain at the heart of every decision. Therefore, the ministry continues to focus on creating learning spaces that promote dignity, accessibility, and equal opportunities.

Focus on Better Learning Facilities

During his visit to the National Special Education Centre for Visually Handicapped Children, Mahbub reviewed ongoing renovation work. He expressed satisfaction with the progress. However, he also called for more modern and need-based facilities.
The secretary urged officials to expand support for students with hearing differences. In addition, he emphasized the need to create future-ready learning environments. He said every upgrade should reflect the ministry’s commitment to inclusion and belonging.
At the Physical Handicapped Centre, Mahbub highlighted the importance of student-centered planning. He directed authorities to ensure that all renovations remain accessible and digitally enabled. Furthermore, he stressed that facilities should encourage meaningful participation rather than simple physical access.

Building an Inclusive Society

Officials from the Directorate General of Special Education briefed the secretary on project timelines and progress. Mahbub held detailed discussions with department heads and project teams. He emphasized that construction quality and institutional performance must meet high standards.
The ministry believes that accessible education creates long-term benefits for society. When students receive proper support, they gain the skills needed to contribute confidently to their communities. As a result, inclusive classrooms help build a more inclusive workforce.
Mahbub said inclusive education reform is not a temporary initiative. Instead, it represents a long-term commitment to equal opportunities for all learners. The ministry aims to ensure that every student can learn, grow, and succeed in an environment designed to meet diverse needs. Through these reforms, Pakistan moves closer to a more equitable and inclusive future.
