Islamabad Universities Shift Online as Security Tightens Before Iran-US Talks

Several Islamabad universities online have shifted academic activities due to rising security concerns. Authorities expect high-level Iran-US talks in the capital. As a result, institutions have moved classes online and postponed exams.
International Islamic University Islamabad announced online classes from April 20 to 24. The university also postponed mid-term exams scheduled for April 20 and 21. In addition, it introduced a four-day workweek for non-teaching staff with partial remote work.

Universities Move to Online Learning

Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi also shifted all classes online from April 18 to 26. The university closed its main campus for one week. Moreover, it directed hostel students to vacate immediately.
Staff members will work from home during this period. However, essential staff will remain available when needed. Similarly, Rawalpindi Medical University postponed Allied Health Sciences exams. Officials said this step will help students during uncertain conditions.

Heightened Security Measures

Authorities have tightened security across Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Police have deployed over 10,000 personnel and set up 600 checkpoints. In addition, officials have sealed sensitive areas near Nur Khan

Airbase and Islamabad International Airport.

Officials have banned drone flights, pigeon flying, and aerial firing. These steps aim to protect incoming foreign delegations. Furthermore, authorities have closed hostels across Rawalpindi and ordered residents to vacate.
Security remains high on key routes in Islamabad. Building owners must follow strict guidelines and obtain security clearance. Meanwhile, no official date has been announced for the next round of talks.
The shift to Islamabad universities online reflects the broader impact of these developments. It highlights how security concerns can reshape daily academic life.
