Karachi Exam Probe Triggers Chairman Resignation Over Matric Irregularities

Karachi exam probe has revealed serious irregularities in matric exams. The findings pushed Chairman Ghulam Hussain Soho to resign. However, authorities still need to decide his final status. The situation has raised concerns about fairness in the exam system.

Inquiry Uncovers Irregularities

The inquiry committee completed its investigation and submitted the report. It found that officials changed more than 170 exam centers during exams. As a result, students and parents questioned the transparency of the process.
The report alleged that the chairman coordinated with several individuals. For example, Manzoor Solangi, Imran Butt, Raja Fayyaz, and Meraj Ali. These individuals reportedly helped shift exam centers. In addition, some headmasters also influenced decisions. The report mentioned Muhammad Ali, Ayub Shani, and Amir Murtaza. Therefore, the inquiry suggested a wider network behind the changes.
The committee formed the probe on the instructions of Sindh Boards Minister Ismail Rahoo. It aimed to identify mismanagement and ensure accountability. However, the findings exposed deeper issues within the system.

Resignation and Recommended Action

The committee recommended the chairman’s suspension and criminal proceedings. As a result, Ghulam Hussain Soho resigned from his position. Sources said he stepped down to avoid suspension. In addition, he wanted to protect his role in the Federal Board. His resignation now awaits approval from the chief minister. Therefore, authorities will decide whether to accept it or proceed with punishment.
The report also called for action against other officials. It recommended disciplinary steps against Board Secretary Naveed Gujar. Moreover, it urged early action against Deputy Controller Imran Butt. Sindh Minister Ismail Rahoo stressed that no pressure will influence decisions. He confirmed that authorities will act strictly on the report. As a result, many expect firm action to restore trust in the system.
