Karachi Port Ranking Improves as KPT Climbs 30 Places in Global CPPI Index

The Karachi Port ranking has improved significantly after the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) climbed 30 places in the global Containers Port Performance Index (CPPI). According to officials and 24NewsHD TV, the port has shown strong progress in efficiency and operational performance.
KPT confirmed that Karachi Port now stands at 69th position worldwide. This rise reflects better handling capacity and improved management of container traffic. As a result, the port has strengthened its role in regional and international shipping networks.

Improved Performance and Efficiency

Officials reported that Karachi Port’s CPPI score increased from 30 to 45.7. This improvement highlights major gains in productivity and service delivery. For example, better coordination between departments has reduced delays in cargo handling.
In addition, modernised systems and operational reforms have supported smoother port activities. Therefore, shipping operations now run with greater speed and efficiency than before.
KPT officials said they will continue these reforms to maintain upward momentum. They also set a future goal to reach the world’s top 50 container ports by 2027. This target reflects long-term planning and commitment to global competitiveness.

Boost for Trade and Maritime Sector

Experts say this development benefits Pakistan’s maritime and trade sectors. Improved port performance can reduce shipping delays and lower logistics costs. As a result, importers and exporters may experience faster and more reliable trade processes.
Furthermore, better efficiency at Karachi Port can strengthen Pakistan’s position in global shipping routes. It may also attract more international trade activity through the country.
KPT officials said they remain committed to continuous improvement. They plan to upgrade infrastructure and enhance operational systems further. In addition, they aim to support economic growth through stronger maritime performance.
The recent rise in rankings shows steady progress. Therefore, stakeholders see it as a positive sign for Pakistan’s trade future and port development strategy.
