Pakistan to Host US–Iran Peace Deal Signing in Geneva on June 19, Says PM Shehbaz Sharif
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Pakistan will host the formal signing ceremony of the US Iran peace deal in Geneva on June 19. He shared the update while addressing the National Assembly on Monday. He said both countries reached an understanding after intensive negotiations. They agreed to end military operations across all fronts.
The prime minister called the development a historic milestone. He said the world has moved from conflict toward peace. Therefore, he described the agreement as a major diplomatic success for Pakistan and the international community.
Diplomatic Breakthrough and Global Response
Shehbaz Sharif said the agreement reflects the success of dialogue over war. He stated that three months of negotiations led to this outcome. In addition, he thanked global leaders for supporting the peace process.
He congratulated the Pakistani nation and said Pakistan played a constructive role in facilitating diplomacy. He also praised political leaders from all parties for supporting the process. As a result, he described the moment as a collective national achievement.
The Iranian ambassador attended the National Assembly session. Meanwhile, lawmakers welcomed the announcement with appreciation.
The prime minister thanked several international leaders. These included US President Donald Trump, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He also acknowledged support from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and China.
Pakistan’s Role in Peace Efforts
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan supported negotiations through its diplomatic channels. He added that civil and military leadership worked together to encourage peace. For example, he credited Field Marshal Asim Munir and National Security Adviser Lt Gen Asim Malik for their contributions.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif called the agreement a major diplomatic success for Pakistan. He said it strengthened the country’s global standing. He also praised efforts that helped promote dialogue during a sensitive global situation.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq also congratulated the House. He highlighted the efforts of the prime minister, foreign office, and security leadership.
The prime minister concluded by urging unity across political divides. He said Pakistan would continue supporting peace and stability worldwide. He also stressed that the country would work to ensure economic benefits from improved global conditions reach ordinary citizens.
