KP Launches Digital Education Reform to Boost Literacy by 35%
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved a major KP digital education reform plan to modernize schools and improve access to quality learning. The initiative aims to increase the province’s literacy rate by up to 35 percent over the next two years. Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi approved the plan during a high-level meeting and described it as a long-term investment in the future of education.
Digital Learning to Reach More Students
The provincial government will launch the reforms under the Parho Khyber Pakhtunkhwa initiative. Officials said the project requires a one-time investment of Rs. 5 billion. However, they expect the reforms to generate annual savings of more than Rs. 100 billion through improved efficiency and digital services.
Under the new plan, the government will digitize the provincial curriculum and make all textbooks available on mobile phones. Students will also be able to download lessons and continue studying without an internet connection. As a result, learners in remote and underserved areas will have better access to educational resources.
Officials informed the meeting that online teaching has already started in more than 50 schools. In addition, another 500 schools will join the province’s virtual learning platform by the end of August. The government believes this expansion will help improve learning outcomes across the province.
AI-Powered Platform to Transform Classrooms
The reform plan also includes virtual science laboratories and digital language laboratories. Furthermore, the government will introduce a unified digital platform for teaching, assignments, examinations, attendance, and academic monitoring.
The platform will combine artificial intelligence with teacher-led instruction to provide personalized learning for students. Therefore, teachers will be able to monitor academic progress more effectively while adapting lessons to individual learning needs.
Chief Minister Afridi said the initiative marks a major step toward building a modern education system. He added that technology-driven learning will improve educational standards, expand opportunities for students, and prepare young people with the skills needed for the future. The government expects the reforms to strengthen the province’s education sector and support sustainable development in the coming years.
