Lahore Civil Secretariat Bans Private Vehicles Over Parking Crisis

The Punjab government has imposed a Secretariat vehicle ban at the Civil Secretariat in Lahore to reduce congestion and parking problems inside the complex. The Additional Chief Secretary issued new instructions allowing only official government vehicles to enter the premises. According to reports, authorities introduced the restriction after traffic and parking management became increasingly difficult within the Secretariat. In addition, officials said the growing number of private vehicles created operational challenges for government staff. The new policy aims to improve discipline, regulate movement, and ensure smoother traffic flow inside the government complex.
Under the latest instructions, private vehicles will no longer receive general access to the Secretariat premises. However, authorities plan to issue special stickers for authorised private vehicles through a controlled system. Officials believe this approach will help monitor vehicle entry more effectively and prevent unnecessary congestion.

Authorities Aim to Reduce Congestion

Officials said the Secretariat faced serious parking shortages because of the increasing number of vehicles entering the premises daily. As a result, employees and visitors often experienced delays and difficulty finding parking spaces. Authorities explained that traffic congestion also affected routine government operations.
The Additional Chief Secretary directed departments to implement the new rules immediately. Furthermore, officials stressed that only approved vehicles with proper authorization would receive access under the sticker system. The administration expects the move to improve discipline and create better parking arrangements inside the Secretariat.
Meanwhile, several employees welcomed the decision and said better traffic control could reduce unnecessary delays during office hours. Others, however, expressed concern about transport arrangements for staff members who rely on private vehicles.

New System to Improve Management

Authorities stated that the restriction forms part of broader efforts to improve management inside the Civil Secretariat. Officials added that regulating vehicle movement would help maintain order and ease operational difficulties for employees working in the complex.
The administration also plans to monitor the effectiveness of the policy in the coming weeks. Consequently, departments may introduce further adjustments if congestion problems continue. Government officials believe the measure will create a more organized environment for both staff and visitors.
