German airline Lufthansa will cut 20,000 European short-haul flights. The cuts will happen over the summer. The reason is soaring fuel prices. Many journeys have become “unprofitable” for the firm.
A Major Summer Reduction
Jet fuel has doubled in price. The increase started with the US-Israel war with Iran. The conflict has slowed fuel production and transportation across the Middle East.
Other Airlines Follow Suit
Lufthansa is not alone. Several other airlines have also cut some flights. These include KLM-France and Delta. Other airlines have raised ticket prices instead. They are passing on the extra expenses to customers.
Worse to Come
Analysts have warned travelers to expect more disruption. Further ticket price rises are likely. More cancelled flights are also possible. The conflict continues, and fuel prices remain high.
