Meta Expands Reels Controls Across the US

Meta has launched Reels algorithm controls for all users in the United States. The feature first appeared in limited testing earlier this year. Now, everyone can personalize their Reels feed with simple manual settings.
Users can tap the control icon on the top right of the Reels feed. This opens a clean panel that displays a range of interest topics. From there, you can add or remove categories based on what you enjoy. You can also preview sample videos to understand how each topic shapes your recommendations.
These updates offer more freedom. As a result, people can rely less on Meta’s automated suggestions. Meta’s Chris Cox explained that the tool brings users “a more controllable experience.” He also noted that the system will improve over time.

Why Manual Controls Matter

The idea sounds empowering. It gives users confidence that they can fine-tune their feed whenever they want. However, this shift also comes with trade-offs for Meta. AI-driven recommendations have boosted overall engagement, especially on Reels. Allowing people to guide the feed manually could reduce that impact.
Even so, Meta knows that most users rarely adjust settings. Many prefer to open the app and start scrolling. Therefore, offering manual tools may serve more as reassurance than a major behavioral shift.
Still, these features could help people curate a healthier and more enjoyable feed. Instagram will even let you share your selected interests in Stories. This adds a social layer that may encourage more people to try the controls.Meta’s new Reels algorithm controls give US users more personalization options, offering fresh ways to manage interests and recommendations.
Overall, the update is worth exploring. Small tweaks could change how your Reels experience feels each day.
