Nations Unite to Cut Russian Oil and Gas, Says Starmer
More than 20 nations supporting Ukraine have agreed to cut Russian oil and gas from global markets. The move aims to pressure President Vladimir Putin to end the ongoing war.
After hosting a summit of the “coalition of the willing” in London, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said the effort targets Moscow’s war finances. “We’re choking off funding for Russia’s war machine,” he declared.
Sanctions Tighten Against Moscow
The UK and US recently imposed sanctions on Russia’s two largest oil companies. In addition, the European Union announced new measures targeting liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports from Moscow.
According to Starmer, these steps mark a united front against Russian aggression. “This is global teamwork for peace,” he said, emphasizing that economic pressure can be more effective than military escalation.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky attended the London summit and praised the new measures. “Pressure is the only way to stop the fighting,” he stated. However, no long-range missile supplies for Ukraine were confirmed during the event.
Building Global Unity
The coalition’s goal is clear — to drain Russia’s war funding while protecting global stability. Many leaders believe that cutting energy revenue will weaken Russia’s capacity to continue the conflict.
As a result, markets may see short-term energy shifts. However, officials stress that unity and persistence are essential for lasting peace. The move to cut Russian oil and gas reflects a broader strategy to support Ukraine and defend international law.
