October 2025 Supermoon and Twin Meteor Showers Light Up the Sky
Get ready for one of the most dazzling celestial events of the year! October 2025 will feature a glowing supermoon and two exciting meteor showers — the Draconids and the Orionids. Stargazers around the world are in for a cosmic treat.
On October 6, look up to witness a stunning supermoon. During this event, the Moon appears up to 30% brighter and 14% larger than usual. This happens because the Moon reaches perigee, its closest point to Earth in its orbit.
Interestingly, just two days before, on October 4, the world will celebrate International Observe the Moon Night. It’s the perfect time to join global moon enthusiasts in appreciating our natural satellite.
So grab a telescope or simply step outside — this supermoon promises a breathtaking view.
The Draconid and Orionid Meteor Showers
Following the supermoon, the skies will sparkle even more. Between October 6 and 10, the Draconid meteor shower will light up the northern sky. Originating from Comet 21P Giacobini-Zinner, these meteors may produce up to 10 shooting stars per hour.
However, if the supermoon’s brightness dims your view, don’t worry! The Orionid meteor shower peaks later on October 21. This shower, born from Halley’s Comet debris, can deliver up to 20 meteors per hour.
Since it coincides with the new moon, the skies will be dark — perfect for spotting fireballs streaking across space. For the best view, find a quiet, dark spot after sunset. Look southeast if you’re in the Northern Hemisphere or northeast if you’re in the Southern Hemisphere.
A Cosmic Show Not to Miss
October’s night sky offers a mix of magic and science. Whether you’re a seasoned stargazer or just someone who loves to look up, this month’s supermoon and meteor showers are worth your attention.
So, mark your calendar, invite your friends, and get ready for a night of wonder.
