Pakistan Centralizes AI Hiring Under New Government Framework

The Government of Pakistan has introduced the Pakistan AI hiring framework to centralize recruitment for artificial intelligence roles. This decision will apply to all federal ministries and divisions. As a result, authorities aim to create a more structured and transparent hiring process.
Officials say the move will improve oversight in emerging technology roles. In addition, it will ensure consistent standards across departments. Authorities believe this step will strengthen governance in the fast-growing AI sector.

Central Approval for AI Recruitment

Under the new system, departments cannot start AI-related hiring without approval. The Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA) will oversee all recruitment processes. Therefore, institutions must submit their hiring plans for review before moving forward.
The policy also requires technical vetting for each step. This includes creating new posts, designing recruitment procedures, and evaluating candidates. Moreover, departments must seek prior approval for job advertisements and terms of reference.
The Federal Board of Revenue has already issued instructions to its field offices. As a result, implementation has begun across key departments. Officials have also assigned focal persons to ensure compliance with the new rules.

New Rules for Emerging Technology Jobs

The framework will also cover roles linked to emerging technologies. This step will bring greater consistency across modern technical positions. Therefore, authorities expect better coordination in hiring practices. All federal institutions must now submit relevant cases to the Pakistan Digital Authority. This requirement will help centralize decision-making. In addition, it will reduce duplication and improve efficiency.
Officials have directed chief commissioners and directors general to follow the policy strictly. Non-compliance may delay recruitment processes. Overall, the government aims to build a skilled workforce through a transparent and standardized system.
