Pakistan, US Agree to Expand Education and Technology Cooperation
Pakistan and the United States have agreed to strengthen Pakistan US education cooperation by expanding collaboration in education, research, cyber security, and emerging technologies. The agreement came during a meeting between Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and a visiting US Congressional delegation in Islamabad. Both sides described education as a key pillar of their bilateral relationship.
The US delegation included Congressmen Michael James Baumgartner and Ryan Keith Zinke. Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Wajiha Qamar, the ministry’s secretary, and senior officials also attended the meeting. Together, they discussed new opportunities to deepen academic and technological partnerships.
Focus on research and emerging technologies
During the meeting, Pakistan and the United States reviewed ways to strengthen cooperation in research, curriculum development, faculty exchange, and capacity building. In particular, both countries emphasized the growing importance of cyber security education and professional training.
In addition, the two sides agreed to expand collaboration in information technology, financial technology (FinTech), agricultural technology, and other emerging fields. Pakistan also proposed establishing joint research centres and introducing more dual-degree programmes between Pakistani and American universities. Officials believe these initiatives will improve knowledge sharing and encourage innovation.
The meeting also highlighted the success of educational exchange programmes. According to officials, more than 44,000 Pakistani students, scholars, and professionals have benefited from US-funded initiatives, including the Fulbright Programme. Both sides said these exchanges have strengthened academic cooperation and promoted lasting people-to-people connections.
Stronger partnership through education
Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to becoming a reliable partner in science, technology, and innovation. He said stronger academic cooperation would create new opportunities for students, researchers, and educational institutions in both countries.
Furthermore, the minister appreciated the positive contributions of the Pakistani-American community. He also recognized the valuable role played by Pakistani-American medical professionals in strengthening bilateral relations.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed that expanding cooperation in education, research, innovation, and advanced technologies would further deepen Pakistan-US relations. They expressed confidence that stronger academic partnerships would support scientific progress, develop skilled human resources, and create long-term benefits for both nations.
