PathVerse AR App Makes Indoor Navigation Easy Without GPS
The PathVerse AR app could change the way people move inside large buildings. A group of students from the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) developed the application to provide accurate indoor navigation without GPS or internet access. They presented the project during IoBM’s annual TechNova event. As a result, the app attracted attention for its practical use and innovative design.
The event featured more than 45 projects from students representing over 35 universities. These projects highlighted creative ideas and practical solutions to real-world problems. However, PathVerse AR stood out because it solved a common challenge faced by visitors in large buildings.
Augmented Reality Offers Smart Indoor Navigation
The PathVerse AR app uses augmented reality to guide users from their current location to a selected destination. For example, it can direct users to a classroom, office, department, or meeting room with clear visual instructions.
The application relies on an offline mapping system instead of GPS. Therefore, users can navigate even in places where internet signals remain weak or unavailable. The app also calculates the shortest route to the destination.
If a user takes the wrong path, the application immediately creates a new route. As a result, users can reach their destination without confusion. In addition, the app displays information about departments, offices, and facilities before navigation begins.
Students Plan Wider Use Across Pakistan
The development team plans to introduce the PathVerse AR app in hospitals, shopping malls, government offices, and other large public buildings. They believe the technology can improve visitor experiences and reduce the time spent searching for locations.
The students also said the application could support people with disabilities who often struggle to navigate unfamiliar indoor spaces. Furthermore, the app removes the need for printed maps and QR-code navigation systems.
The project aims to make indoor navigation faster, smarter, and more accessible. With its offline capability and user-friendly interface, PathVerse AR has the potential to become a valuable solution for institutions and businesses across Pakistan.
