PMDC Illegal Practice Warning: Crackdown on Quackery Amid Rising HIV Cases

Crackdown on Unauthorized Treatment
The PMDC stated that only licensed doctors and dentists can diagnose and treat patients. They also hold the authority to prescribe medicines. However, some individuals continue to offer services without proper approval.
Pharmacists, psychologists, and dental technicians cannot run independent clinics. In addition, they cannot prescribe medicines under current regulations. The council warned that such actions increase serious health risks.
Officials linked these illegal practices to the spread of infectious diseases. For example, cases of HIV and hepatitis have increased in Islamabad and Mirpurkhas. As a result, authorities see the need for urgent action.
Government Response and Health Measures
The warning follows rising HIV and AIDS cases across Pakistan. The Ministry of Health has decided to strengthen infection control systems. Therefore, hospitals will adopt safer practices and better monitoring.
A five-member committee will review infection control measures nationwide. It will focus on safe syringe use and coordination with provinces. In addition, the panel will suggest ways to prevent further spread.
The PMDC has urged relevant councils to stop illegal practices immediately. It stressed that only registered professionals can perform allopathic treatment and surgeries. Moreover, strict enforcement will help improve patient safety. Officials believe these steps will reduce risks and support a stronger healthcare system.
