Pokémon: Storm Emeralda Brings Mega Rayquaza Back to the Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Era

Pokémon: Storm Emeralda Brings Mega Rayquaza Back to the Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Era

The Pokémon Company has officially revealed Pokémon: Storm Emeralda, a brand-new Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion that celebrates the beloved Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire era. Headlined by Mega Rayquaza ex, the upcoming set marks the return of fan-favourite Hoenn themes while introducing exciting mechanics and stunning new artwork. Pokémon: Storm Emeralda will launch in Japan on July 31, 2026, before arriving internationally later this year as part of the Delta Reign Mega Evolution expansion. The announcement has already generated excitement among collectors and competitive players eager to revisit one of Pokémon’s most iconic generations.

Pokémon: Storm Emeralda Revives the Hoenn Era

The biggest attraction in Pokémon: Storm Emeralda is the return of Mega Rayquaza ex, one of the franchise’s most popular Legendary Pokémon. Mega Rayquaza first appeared during the Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire era, making this expansion a nostalgic celebration for longtime fans. Several cards have already been revealed, including Fletchling and its Evolution line, alongside the new Legendary Summit Stadium card. The expansion contains approximately 115 cards, including 76 main-set cards and roughly 40 Secret Rare cards, giving collectors plenty of exciting cards to chase. The reveal also showcases impressive artwork that highlights the Hoenn region and its legendary Pokémon, further increasing anticipation ahead of release.

New Card Mechanics Add Fresh Strategy

Beyond its nostalgic theme, the game introduces the return of split Stadium cards inspired by the classic LEGEND cards from the HeartGold & SoulSilver era. Legendary Summit is the first example shown, bringing back a mechanic that many longtime TCG players never expected to see again. This addition creates fresh strategic opportunities while honouring Pokémon’s history. Although The Pokémon Company has not confirmed whether additional split Stadium cards will appear in the expansion, more details are expected as the full card list is revealed before launch.

International Release Follows Japan

Following its Japanese release on July 31, Pokémon: Storm Emeralda will launch internationally on November 6, 2026, under the Delta Reign Mega Evolution expansion. The international release arrives slightly later than usual due to scheduling changes related to Pokémon’s ongoing 30th anniversary celebrations. Even so, the wait is expected to be worthwhile as Mega Rayquaza remains one of the franchise’s most beloved Pokémon. Between its nostalgic Hoenn setting, beautiful card designs, returning mechanics, and competitive potential, Pokémon: Storm Emeralda is shaping up to be one of the biggest Pokémon TCG releases of 2026.
