Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): Life, Message and Legacy
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was the final Prophet and Messenger of Islam. He delivered Allah’s message and guided the Muslim community. Muslims believe Allah revealed the Holy Quran to him through Angel Gabriel.
Birth, Early Life and First Revelation
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in 570 CE, around 12 Rabi al-Awwal, in Mecca. Historical sources differ about his exact birth date. His father, Abdullah, died before his birth.His mother, Aminah, died when he was still a young child. His grandfather, Abdul Muttalib, then cared for him. After his grandfather died, his uncle Abu Talib became his guardian.
As a young man, Muhammad (PBUH) became known for his honesty and trustworthy character. In 595 CE, he married Khadijah, a respected and wealthy woman in Mecca. They remained married for about 25 years.In 610 CE, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) received his first revelation in the Cave of Hira. According to Islamic tradition, Angel Gabriel brought Allah’s message to him.He began preaching Islam and calling people towards the worship of one God. His message challenged established beliefs in Mecca. As a result, he and his followers faced strong opposition and persecution.
Hijrah, Conquest of Mecca and Final Pilgrimage
In 622 CE, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) migrated from Mecca to Medina. Muslims call this migration the Hijrah. It became a major turning point in Islamic history and marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar.In Medina, he established a growing Muslim community. He also developed agreements with different groups and guided the community through periods of conflict.
In 630 CE, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) returned to Mecca with his followers. Muslims peacefully entered the city, and the Prophet granted a general amnesty to many former opponents.In 632 CE, he performed the Farewell Pilgrimage. During his final address, he emphasized justice, equality, human dignity, family responsibilities and good character.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) died in 632 CE in Medina. Muslims continue to follow his teachings and example. His life remains central to Islamic faith, worship, ethics and community life.His legacy continues to influence millions of Muslims worldwide. His message of faith, compassion, justice and moral responsibility remains an important part of Islamic tradition.
