Punjab convenience markets project deadline set for July

Punjab has accelerated its Punjab convenience markets project to improve access to affordable goods. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif set July as the deadline for completing 27 new markets. As a result, residents can expect better shopping facilities soon.
She announced the timeline while chairing a meeting in Lahore. Officials shared updates on progress and future plans. Therefore, the government aims to complete the project within a tight schedule.

New markets to boost access and business

The government will establish 27 modern markets across Punjab. In addition, it will launch 13 “Sahulat on-the-go” markets in various districts. These mobile-style setups will improve access in busy or underserved areas.
Officials said the project will create around 1,300 new businesses. As a result, it will generate more than 600 direct jobs. Moreover, millions of residents will benefit from improved access to daily essentials.
Shopkeepers will receive key support from the government. For example, authorities will provide free electricity and sanitation services. This support will reduce operating costs and encourage small businesses.

Focus on affordability and modern facilities

The Punjab convenience markets project also focuses on efficiency and safety. Officials plan to install centralized CCTV systems to monitor all sites. Therefore, they expect to save about Rs53 million annually on security.
In addition, the markets will offer clean and organized spaces for families. Shoppers will find quality products at affordable prices. As a result, the initiative aims to improve everyday shopping experiences.
Maryam Nawaz said the project will create a welcoming environment for all communities. She emphasized the need for quality, affordability, and accessibility. Therefore, authorities are working to ensure timely completion.
Overall, the Punjab convenience markets plan combines economic growth with public convenience. It aims to support businesses while improving daily life for millions across Punjab.
