Karachi traffic crackdown targets wrong-way driving violations
Karachi authorities have launched a new Karachi traffic crackdown to curb wrong-way driving across the city. Traffic police announced stricter enforcement to improve discipline on roads. As a result, motorists will face quicker penalties for violations.
DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah said wrong-way driving has become a serious issue. Therefore, officers now use modern gadgets to issue challans more efficiently. This step aims to ensure faster and more transparent enforcement.
Targeted action on major roads
Traffic police have identified 36 high-risk locations across Karachi. These areas report frequent wrong-way driving incidents. Therefore, officials will carry out targeted operations in these zones.
In addition, authorities plan to deploy a Special Traffic Flow Unit soon. This unit will monitor key roads and manage traffic movement more effectively. As a result, congestion and violations may reduce.
The e-challan system has also improved enforcement. However, officials said it is not fully active in all areas. For example, University Road still lacks full system coverage.
Stricter rules and digital enforcement
The Karachi traffic crackdown will expand further in the coming months. From June, police will take strict action against lane violations on Shahrah-e-Faisal. This move aims to strengthen overall traffic discipline.
Meanwhile, the Sindh High Court has asked authorities to respond to petitions on the e-challan system. Officials continue to review its implementation and effectiveness.
Authorities say digital enforcement has already reduced traffic accidents. In addition, fines have increased compared to previous years. Therefore, officials believe stricter monitoring will improve road safety.
