Quetta Train Blast Kills 24, Injures Dozens in Balochistan
A deadly Quetta train blast killed at least 24 people on Sunday in Quetta. More than 50 others suffered injuries after a suicide car bomb targeted a train carrying soldiers. Officials said the explosion took place near the railway track in the provincial capital. As a result, several train carriages overturned and caught fire. The attack also damaged nearby houses and buildings.
The banned militant group Balochistan Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the bombing. Security officials immediately reached the area and started rescue operations. Meanwhile, emergency teams shifted the injured to nearby hospitals. Authorities later declared an emergency in public hospitals across Quetta. Doctors and medical staff also remained on duty to handle the crisis.
Explosion Causes Heavy Damage
According to reports, the powerful blast caused major destruction near the railway line. Videos shared online showed damaged train carriages and burnt vehicles. Thick black smoke also covered the area after the explosion. In addition, several nearby buildings suffered structural damage.
Journalists at the scene reported that rescue workers continued clearing debris for hours. Security forces also cordoned off the area after the attack. Officials fear the death toll may rise because several injured victims remain in critical condition.
Pakistan Condemns Terror Attack
Pakistan has faced several attacks in Balochistan during recent months. Many attacks targeted security forces and foreign workers linked to Chinese-backed projects. Under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, China connected Xinjiang to Gwadar port through major infrastructure investments.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the Quetta train blast. In a statement on X, he said terrorism could not weaken Pakistan’s resolve. He also promised continued efforts to eliminate terrorism across the country.
